You could see results after a few days if your articles are exceptionally good. On the other hand, if you are just submitting articles left and right that is just “filler” content for the search engines, you are going to wait a long time before you see any result – most likely it won’t be worth it at all.
You should also understand that article marketing is just one of many methods used to market an online business website – it is not really a business in itself. Yes, I know a lot of people will say that it is, but the fact is you will get much better results if you compound your efforts into your own authority website, instead of just submitting a lot of individual articles.
The previous answer is correct. I might add that you could find gain more traffic by posting on relative forums than simply submitting articles. Although still effective, article marketing peaked a few years ago and is not as effective as it once was.

Yes, you can wait on this, but you also want to include other marketing methods that help you find your customers.

It depends. Are you using keywords strategically? If you are writing articles about a topic that include specific keywords, and do what you plan on doing, it can take 3-12 months. This all depends on how competitive the keywords are.

Do not over use keywords within the body, Make sure you content matches what your title is about and do not leave affiliate links within the body of your articles.

You will get a lot of traffic if your article is worth reading, if it is hitting the pain of visitors like pinching something in your article title which will force people to read. At first your title has to be impressive.
